Nonverbal Communication is a HUGE area of difficulty for my high school students who have high-functioning Autism/Aspergers. This unit really worked on having the students analyze observations (what they see) to make “Smart Guesses” of what is happening in the scenarios.
This is always a challenge for my kiddos but after practice and repetition, they start to recognize basic nonverbal communication and how to respond.

First, the students were given the picture and visual reminders on the side of what nonverbal clues to focus. Then we would discuss what observations we notice from the picture.
We then complete this worksheet I developed to talk through our thought process.
